JAMB 2020: Here's Why You May Have To Write JAMB Again

JAMB 2020: Here's Why You May Have To Write JAMB Again

Towards the end of the 2019 and at the start of the new year, youth hopefuls could be seen queueing in the various CBT centres that are meant to register and subsequently conduct exams for JAMB candidates.

Around that time, the most important thing on most people's minds was to get through the exam with a good score so they could have a larger pool of schools to pick from.

The JAMB exams drew near and around that time, a highly contagious virus was slowly brewing and spreading in China.

Majority of us were oblivious to that fact and none of us would have thought that something so shocking and unprecedented could have a huge impact on our future.

At last the exam came and it was written without much incedent and some of the candidates (who were writing for the first time) began preparing for either one or both of the SSCE exams ; waec and neco.

Then, everything was turned upside down. Schools were closed and all non essential services were stopped immediately.

The virus had caught up with us and we were going to bear the consequences. Most people expressed hope early on for an early reopening and return of activities, but after spending over a month on lockdown that seems highly unlikely.

The dates for waec and neco have all but passed meaning those who wrote jamb for the first time will not have the complete requirements to apply to universities.

Repeat writers are not completely out of the water either, there have been speculations regarding when school activities will return and a lot of hints are pointing to a year round suspension of school activities.

The risk seems to great to let thousands of students go to school when the virus Nigeria is still not at its peak.

If you do not know, the validity period of JAMB exams is one year and if the year runs out without the reopening of schools, candidates may as well start preparing for fresh exams.

The Jamb board may temporarily change this rule as a result of the nation's current predicament but there's no news on that yet and as it stands, if the year runs out without schools reopening, you will have to write JAMB again.
