Government release new updates on resumption of schools

The guidelines for the safe reopening of schools and other learning activities after the covid-19 pandemic. The measures and requirements needed for the reopening of schools have been outlined.

The social distancing measures in the guidelines for schools and other learning activities is that the students should be able to stay two meters away from each other.

Morever, the government did not outline when schools will resume.

The minister of education, Mallam Adamu explained that the need to develop the guidelines was very urgent because the "covid-19 may be with us for a while"

In these situations, risk assessments must be undertaken with the best interest of the students, teachers, and other education personnel in mind. This requires organizing students in small groups.

Also with the release of the guidelines, the government would determine the upgrading of facilities in the school. Such as classrooms, water, sanitation, hygiene-WASH to sustain safe reopening of schools.

The documents adds that the covid-19 poses a large threat to the health and safety of learners, parents, teachers and the wider community. Over 1.5 billion children and young people have been affected by school closure.

Adamu said the guidelines also highlight the urgent need to maintain and improve upon distance-learning programmes.

Adamu said: “Our aim is to identify and strengthen programmes that will guarantee the recovery of learning gaps resulting from the pandemic.
