List Of Universities And Polytechnics That May Not Reopen Schools This Year 2020

The federal government imposed total lockdown in Schools and other sectors in Nigeria three months ago, in order to ease the spread of covid-19 virus. But it has been noted that others sectors has started their activities. Unfortunately, schools are yet to reopen due to the fact that the federal government cannot risk the lives of students by reopening schools for them amid covid-19 pandemic.

Honestly, since the shutdown of schools, Reopening of all educational sectors in Nigeria has been a bone of contention between the government and the citizens as students, parents and guidance express concern about continuing closure of school.

President Muhammadu Buhari who is the commander in chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, made a broadcast on the democracy day approving the ease of lock down. Before then, president Muhammad Buhari in conjunction with the federal government has vested powers on the state governments to decide when to lift lockdown in their various states. For instance, restrictions on churches and mosques have been lifted by the federal government yet some states like Lagos didn't agree to the decision of federal government due to the persistence increase in the number of affected persons in their state.

In reference to this, some governors has announced school reopening date in their various states.

Like Oyo state Government had earlier directed all terminal classes which include Primary Six, Junior Secondary School Three, and Senior Secondary School Three to resume on June 29 ahead of preparations for their various exams.

However, a statement was released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr Taiwo Adisa, said Teachers will be the only ones to resume on Monday, June 29 while students in terminal classes will resume on July 6.

With this new system, Teachers are to resume on Monday June 29, 2020, while all students in Primary 6, JSS3 and SS3 will resume a week later on July 6, 2020.

It was also noted that all students and teachers are therefore advised to wear face masks, while the schools are to prepare hand washing spots to ensure regular washing of hands.

It was stated that the state Government will have a review by July 15, to know whether the remaining classes will resume or not.

Furthermore, Other state governors are really looking for possible ways to reopen schools for students especially those in exam classes.
