The situation involving SARS officials and the youths is reaching unprecedented heights as one SARS official was manhandled today in Edo State following a protest to end SARS. The protesters did not just end in beating him, the ones that were sharp amongst them secretly took the SARS Official's mobile phone. The Special Anti-Robbery Squad better known as SARS have recently come under heavy criticisms for the manner in which they go about violating human rights. Their illegal activities have led to a Nationwide online protests calling for the end of SARS with the hashtag #EndSars. Special Anti-Robbery Squad or SARS which has recently been rebranded as Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad was created to fight the menace of armed robbery in Nigeria. However, with the rising complaints from the masses, the agency seems to have outlived its usefulness as they have been involved in several human rights abuse. In one of the protests carried out in Edo State, calling for the government to put an end to SARS, a SARS official was assaulted and harassed by angry youths of the state. Not only that, he had his mobile phone stolen by the angry youths. The SARS official only realised later that he had lost his phone, as he was caught on video screaming that someone had taken his phone. However, when he asked for the phone from the bystanders, he was shoved and slapped, then told to leave before he gets more than he bargained for. So many persons have hailed the action of the protesters in Edo State, saying that the SARS officials will stop violating human rights if they are being treated the way the protesters in Edo treated the unfortunate ones that they met.
