Will WAEC Still Hold This Year? Read Here

The West Africa Examination council which conducts both Ssce and Jsce exams for secondary and Junior secondary school students usually conduct three sets of exams yearly. The May/June exam and the Private GCE exams.

The May/June 2020 exam which was supposed to start 1st of May 2020 was suspended till further notice due to the Pandemic and we are yet to know when the exam will be conducted or if it won't be conducted again this year.

This is because the exam is written in different countries at the same time, these countries included Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra lone, Liberia and The Gambia, all these countries are currently battling with the Corona virus Pandemic and there is no stated date for the reopening of schools in these different countries. Nigeria being the country with the highest number of corona virus cases among these countries also happens to be the country with the highest number of candidates who seats for the exam.

As at now, no country is yet to reopen school and there are no indications that the schools will be reopened soon. The May/June exam can't be canceled because students have paid and registered for the exam.

However we hope that the exam will be rescheduled for a later date soon and that the date won't affect the conduction of the Nov/Dec exam.

If the exam is also reschedule, the time table may be compressed so that the exam will be done within a short period of time. Also CBT exams can't be conducted because the facilities to conduct such an exam are not available. While we await for more instructions from the exam board, all we can do is to wait with crossed fingers, however candidates should not relax but should keep reading and preparing for the exam.
